We are writing to inform you of the ongoing implementation of the Pakse Declaration on the ASEAN Roadmap for Strategic Development of Tourism Corridors and Ecotourism Clusters. This initiative, approved by the 14th ASEAN Tourism Competitiveness Committee (ATCC) and 14th ASEAN Tourism, Resourcing, Monitoring, and Evaluation Committee Meeting (ATRMEC). The 27th ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting was pleased to note the progress of the implementation of Pakse Declaration on ASEAN Roadmap for Strategic Development of Ecotourism Clusters and Tourism Corridors to reinforce the region as a single, sustainable, and inclusive tourism destination envisioned under ATSP 2016-2025, aligns with the goals of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (2016-2025) for a sustainable, inclusive, and beneficial tourism sector within the region.
The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lao PDR (MICT) serves as the Proponent for this project, while DISCOVERY MICE COMMUNICATIONS acts as the designated Implementing Agency. Over the year, a dedicated team of consultants will conduct thorough research, engage with stakeholders, and ultimately deliver a comprehensive roadmap for successful implementation. The proposed transboundary tourism corridors and ecotourism clusters are:-
1. ASEAN Cruise Tourism Corridor
2. ASEAN Cities Flight Corridor (ASEAN Pass)
3. ASEAN Rail Tourism Corridor
4. Heart of Borneo Rainforest Ecotourism Cluster
The list of highly experienced consultants appointed for this project is as follows:
- Lead Consultant: Mr. Lee Choon Loong (Regional Tourism Strategy and Public-Private Partnership)
- Co-Lead Consultant: Professor Dr. Amran Hamzah (Ecotourism and Community Development)
- Co-Lead Consultant: Datuk Dr. Junaida Lee (Tourism Policy and Institutional Capacity)
- Associate Consultant: Ms Fiona Marcus Raja (Market Competitiveness and Digitalisation)
To ensure the Roadmap's relevance and inclusivity across ASEAN member states, the Consultants will actively engage with key stakeholders, policymakers, and industry leaders. Through interviews and collaborative efforts, we aim to gather valuable insights, feedback, and viewpoints that will significantly contribute to a sustainable and beneficial roadmap for the entire region.
