"The Tourism Ministers and Heads of Delegation of ASEAN attending the ASEAN Ecotourism Forum, held in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit chaired by Lao PDR, endorsed the Pakse Declaration on ASEAN Roadmap for Strategic Development of Ecotourism Clusters and Tourism Corridors. The Declaration called for, among other initiatives, an ASEAN coordinated roadmap to strategically identify, plan and develop a trans-regional network of ecotourism sites, and a network of tourism corridors that traverse the urban and rural areas of ASEAN Member States."

EXTRACT: "The Ministers welcomed the Pakse Declaration on ASEAN Roadmap for Strategic Development of Ecotourism Clusters and Tourism Corridor as a result of the First ASEAN Ecotourism Forum held on 22-25 June 2016 in Pakse, Lao PDR. Ecotourism plays an important role in most ASEAN Member States as key attraction/destinations characterized by involvement of many stakeholders including local communities. Ecotourism provided direct benefits to local communities, protection and conservation of biodiversity. In line with the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) 2016-2025, the Ministers agreed that the necessary follow-ups from this Declaration would be subsumed under the existing implementation of ATSP carried out by respective ASEAN tourism committees."

EXTRACT: "With regard to the implementation of the Pakse Declaration on ASEAN Roadmap for Strategic Development of Ecotourism Clusters and Tourism Corridors, the Ministers welcomed the result of the study and the recommended a five-year work plan to implement the Roadmap for the seven ecotourism clusters and tourism corridors, namely, (i) ASEAN Sea Cruise Tourism Corridor; (ii) Mekong North-South Tourism Cluster; (iii) Heart of Borneo Rainforest Ecotourism Cluster; (iv) Coral Triangle Marine Ecotourism Cluster; (v) Mekong/Irrawaddy River Tourism Corridor; (vi) ASEAN City Tourism Corridors (ASEAN Pass); and (vii) Rail Tourism Corridor. The Ministers encouraged ASEAN NTOs to work on the detailed activities in the Work Plan to implement the Pakse Declaration for 2021-2025."
